Overview

What this package is

There's a reason this remains our most-booked package. For travelers passing through Cusco with limited time, the Machu Picchu Full Day Tour delivers the entire experience — train, citadel, guide, transfers — in one carefully orchestrated day. You wake up in Cusco, you sleep in Cusco, and in between you stand inside one of the seven wonders of the modern world.

We pick you up before dawn and drive you to Ollantaytambo Station in the Sacred Valley. From there, a 90-minute train ride along the Urubamba River drops you in Aguas Calientes, the small mountain town beneath the citadel. A 30-minute bus winds up the switchbacks to the entrance gate. Your certified English-speaking guide leads you through Circuit 2 — the classic route covering the postcard viewpoint, the Temple of the Sun, and the residential sector. You'll have free time afterward to wander, photograph, and absorb the silence.

By late afternoon you're back on the train, and by 8 PM you're showered and eating dinner in Cusco. One day. No packing. No hassle. Just the wonder.

"The most efficient way to experience Machu Picchu without compromising the experience itself."

Questions

Frequent questions

How early should I book this tour? +
For low season (November to March), 2–3 weeks ahead is usually enough. For high season (May to September), book at least 4–6 weeks ahead to secure your preferred entry time slot and train schedule. Entry tickets often sell out 1–2 weeks in advance during peak months.
Is one day enough to see Machu Picchu? +
It's enough to see it, but not enough to truly absorb it. You'll have approximately 4 hours inside the citadel — about 2.5 hours guided plus free exploration. For deeper experiences (sunrise, Huayna Picchu climb, multiple circuits), we recommend our 2-day Sunrise package. But if your time is genuinely limited, this single day still delivers a complete and meaningful visit.
What if I want to climb Huayna Picchu? +
Huayna Picchu requires a different ticket type and is not part of Circuit 2. If you want this add-on, please mention it when you inquire — we'll quote you separately. Note that Huayna Picchu is capped at 200 climbers per day and typically requires booking 2–3 months in advance, especially for the desirable morning slots.
What should I bring for the day? +
Your original passport (mandatory — the name on your ticket must match exactly), comfortable walking shoes with grip, sun hat, sunscreen, a refillable water bottle, light rain jacket (weather changes quickly), camera, and some Peruvian Soles in small bills for lunch and tips. Large backpacks are not allowed inside the citadel.
Is it suitable for children or seniors? +
Children from 5 years and active seniors handle this tour well. The walking inside Machu Picchu involves stairs and uneven stone surfaces, but no climbing. The early start can be hard on young children. For travelers with mobility limitations, please contact us — we can sometimes arrange Circuit 3, which is gentler.
What happens if the train is delayed or weather is bad? +
Machu Picchu operates year-round, even in rain. Trains delays are rare but possible — we monitor the situation and adjust pickup times accordingly. In the case of a confirmed force majeure (landslide, strike, severe weather closing the citadel), we offer either a reschedule for the next available date or a full refund minus non-recoverable costs (your entry ticket).
